I like your layout now, but I understand the urge to change. My honest first opinion, there is a lot of black. Makes it a little hard to read.


But that's just my opinion. I prefer the white and/or light colored backgrounds myself.

Nice! :) I like the black/white/blue. And the huge E.D. image is gorgeous! Things are testing okay on Mac, Firefox 2.

My one thought is: since the huge (pretty) header is pushing the content below the fold, then the nav box might work better below the title box. So that when visitors are on a story page, they don't have to scroll as far to reach the "recent entries" link. That's it really.

You picked up the one thing that's been bugging me. It makes sense that the title is above the nav thingy, but I just can't make them switch. I've tried. Aaaarrrggghh! That's been driving me crazy so I gave up. For today. Maybe I'll go back to it tomorrow.

Okay...from a web designer's prospective...

I like it. :D HOWEVER (and this is partially personal opinion, and partially what should really be looked at) The light blue colour for the font on "Leave a comment" is too light. It's contrasts too much against the light grey. Either make the grey just a tad darker, or make the blue just a shade darker. If it's only a few shades, it'll be harder to notice that there's a difference in the blue. Though I'd recommend changing the grey to be a bit darker.

Also...I wouldn't use the reflective gradient on the title of the journal...it's kinda cheesy-looking, and, again, the blue almost blends in to the silver/white in the center. If you'd like to use a gradient, do one like you did for the links or journal titles.

I would work a bit more on Faith...I don't know if you're finished with that pic, but it's still a bit jagged around the edges. Also, perhaps make it a bit smaller...? I know she's the feature, and she can still be big, but on my monitor I have to scroll down a bunch to even get to your journal. As a user, that can be a bit annoying. I love the pic though.

And...the side bar...I'm not sure if you intended this, but the vertical grey gradient bar on the side only goes over about half way behind the page links. I, personally, would mix it up a bit and have a solid colour right there, behind the right navigation.

Also, and this is another personal opinion, I like the dark blue you have for header text now. I would keep it, and use it for your journal text, against the white. It's still dark enough to be contrast-y enough (yes, that's a word :P ) but keeps it being a little less monotone, even though it still is. I would add more shades of the same blue you have (darker and lighter versions of the blue you have for the links), just to give it more depth besides black and white.

Otherwise (pft, yeah, 'cause I just ripped you a new one) I really really like it! :D ♥!!!

The black on white has to stay because people (and me) usually hate to read the text otherwise. I'd rather have a boring layout than have people run away! :D

On the cheesy-thing: The gradient "over-useage" is cheesy, as well as the reflective gradient. A normal top to bottom or bottom to top or side left to right, etc., gradient is fine...as long as it's not over used.

I get what you're saying on the text. I believe that if it's dark enough to look black to someone who's colour blind, than you should be fine. :D

The high contrast between black and blue makes people twitchy, I think. I was expecting that. The most important thing is that the text is readable and no one's computer crashed due to my horrid css. :D

But, I've listened to the suggestions above, so the version you saw is the cleaned-up layout. Heh. Flist = helpful.

^_^ The layout is simple yet good. I normally would avoid black theme because they hurt my eyes, but the font color here is clear, the best is you keep the middle super clear. I have no object. In fact, it is very few people who can make a good black theme. You did a great job with CSS code. I am a novice CSS by the way (^-^;;).
