Did you just change the function of ctrl-b to be add < b>< /b>? Or is it a search and replace for formating? cuase that is totally cool.
Search and replace formatting. Or, you can also select text and click on a toolbar and get bold tags just like you would get bold formatting.

However, if it is a "Beginner's Guide" it might be too overwhelming. I think the basics like how to cut, how to warn, how to rate, how to get a beta... shit like that people need to know before they throw their stuff to the wolves.
